EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
SEUM Community Clean-Up
Annual event since 2021
Student Energy University of Manitoba is committed to connecting with and improving our community. In Fall 2021 we organized our first community clean-up event with supplies provided by Take Pride Winnipeg. Students spent the day picking up litter along Bison Drive and in the surrounding areas. It was a great opportunity to connect with other students, learn about the impact of litter on the environment, and better the community! After the success of our first event, SEUM decided to make our community clean-up an annual event.
Sustainability Showcase
February 2024
SEUM's Sustainability Showcase, in collaboration with the UManitoba Office of Sustainability, was an event for the local community to obtain education, motivation and unity for sustainable action!
We had 13 great booths of local vendors selling eco-friendly products, and sustainability-related organizations sharing education resources. We estimate more than 150 people visited the event!
This event’s success is a testament to the growing interest in sustainable practices in our community. Once again, thank you to all the attendees and vendors for making the Sustainability Showcase a memorable event.

Tour of Torque Brewing Company
November 2022
SEUM had the opportunity to tour Torque Brewing over reading week in November! The staff there taught us about the craft beer brewing process, starting with bags of malted barley and finishing off with their canning line.
Our tour emphasized Torque’s efforts to be more sustainable in their business operations, which they achieve by giving brewing byproducts to local farmers for animal feed, cleaning and filtering waste water on site, through the use of centrifugal filtering rather than the typical material filters, and the use of heat transfer between various operations as a source of energy to reduce energy use. We also learned about the economic and environmental impacts of glass bottles vs aluminum cans for packaging.

After the tour we spent some time in the taproom and enjoyed delicious beers. Thank you to Torque Brewing Company for having us at this event!
